Which won't happen no matter who won the purse bid. Bob owns Pac and unless he goes the Cotto route, Bob won't allow such a fight until he's ready and I'm not convinced he's done milking Manny of the Top Rank fighters just yet.

If Golden Boy wins the purse bid and Arum backs out its a flat out duck in my opinion.

Same way if Top Rank won the bid. This is the only way possible this fight ever gets done. Let the highest bidder promote the fight and be done with it.

That said I doubt it happens. It makes too much sense.

This #1 ranking smells of Bob Arum working his "magic".
WBC always corrupt. Devon was number 1 without doing anything at WW, Khan moved up the rankings too just because.

If anything this is insurance if Floyd vacates the title and they have another cash cow to pay them

Either side would just go out and say they're not making as much money as they could make going to purse bid

Valid point. I was reading an article that was suggesting it was a ploy for Pac to have better leverage at the table.

But it makes more sense by the WBC to have that back up plan in case of Floyd vacating.. Either way, its quit comical.

I don't think it gives him leverage necessarily because Floyd can drop the belt and take Porter's. Then the WBC loses out on future sanctioning fees from Floyd's last 4 fights.

Floyd still hasn't made his mind up about the titles although he's most likely going to stay the WW champ.
