I use to like Lampley as well, but it's clear he has become bias towards certain fighters..Almost to the point of rooting for a certain fighter to win,or when the fight you know he likes losses he becomes like a kid..That is not good for the sport..You have to remember,he's a play by play guy..Those guy's can not be cheerleaders..

Cause it's December and there haven't been many great fights this year so they are desperate for one.

This is why fighters like Rigondeaux are slated, because the commentators do not call fights honestly. Truthfully speaking I found Kirkland's fight boring, he is an unskilled brute ( as I said before). Zero sophistication to his game, just caveman like swings.

Don't know if it beats Bradley vs Provadnikov still but no question it was a great fight for as long as it lasted.

Two guys who don't move their head or defend will always be entertaining. Tapia is 23 years old, that kid took too much punishment to the point that I doubt he ever reaches his full potential or bounces back fully from that Punishment

Kirkland with a new promotion really had no choice to put on a entertaining fight so that he could be invited back to HBO and no question he should be invited back if HBO is truly about "EXCITING FIGHTS"

It was a great action fight, but after Tapia's good first round, he pretty much got beat up pillar to post. Also, there was very little skill like in other FOTY candidates (Bradley-Ruslan for instance), it literally looked like a high level bar fight lol.

Def not fight of the year,, i gotta vote for ruslan-bradley

It was a good fight, turned into a beatdown at the end, but what makes it exciting is that kirkland keeps his chin out and can get dropped or stopped at anytime

He is damn near like an action version of amir khan

Good to have kirkland back, i always enjoyed watching him fight, too bad he is with 50cent because he wont be able to land any big fights at 154, would love to see kirkland vs canelo, angulo 2, trout, etc

Seriously Kirkland should stay far away from Canelo. He'd get killed.

up to that point, it was a hellish fight.

kirkland was looking like a veteran in control, but his defense is so leaky, and tapia was strong enough to hurt him on several occasions.

it would have definitely been a candidate if tapia were a bit more competitive later on. hell, if he came back to knock kirkland out it would have been a classic.

It was looking like a fight of the year candidate up to that point though. But soon after it became more and more one sided.
