I just caught up with this fight. I'm shocked at the result, I expected Barker to perform about as well as his countrymen and fight Sturm to a close decision. I've been hearing that Barker injured his hip in the first round so maybe that had something to do with it--I know he's had hip surgery in the past. If this is true, this may have been his last fight.
Sturm got started early in this fight and was pretty aggressive which is uncharacteristic of him. Barker also should of boxed Sturm instead of pressuring him. Sturm has very underrated power, he just hardly ever looks for the knockout, is very conservative with his punches (I'm not sure why). When he does fire he sometimes drops and hurts guys almost unintentionally though.Last edited by BafanaBafana; 12-07-2013, 08:06 PM.Comment

He better have, how long has he been around compared to the other top MWs? Take Oscar out of his resume and what do you have left? Macklin and Murray were unproven contenders when he fought them, he fought Geale because GGG was his mandatory.Comment

Love him or hate him his record in recent years doesn't look that bad (GGG only has Macklin on his resume):
2011
R. Hearns TKO7
Matthew Macklin SD
Martin Murray MD
2012
Sebastien Zbik TKO9
Daniel Geale SD L
2013
Radosevic TKO4
Darren Barker TKO2
I don't suppose he'll be unifying belts or doing any traveling any time soon though...Last edited by BafanaBafana; 12-07-2013, 08:16 PM.Comment

Macklin was #5 in ring magazine when Sturm fought him. Sebastian Sylvester was #3. Khoren Gevor was #4. Zbik was #4. Geale was #2. Barker was #2.
He mostly stayed away from the truly elite, but his competition has been solid.Comment

That's what you tried to indicate bud. If you were talking in a broader sense you wouldn't purposely add euro there would you?Last edited by MujoHrnjica; 12-07-2013, 08:32 PM.Comment
