Manny Pacquiao needs to develop a new signature punch

bottomline is pacquiao's left straight is over exposed and his opponents are starting to see it coming a mile away. he needs to throw a lot more lefts hooks like the one he used to knock out hatton, left uppercuts like the one he used to knock down cotto and right hooks to the body like the one bradley took.

pacquiao's jab-jab-straight is his signature move but the reality is it's getting to be a liability than an asset. pacquiao said it himself, the key to taking a big punch is to anticapate it. being unpredictable is a key factor in winning fights. your thoughts?

actually no, the straight left still works everytime. even marquez was still getting tag with it. i do agree though that he needs to set it up differently as compare to the usual right right then straight left.

Knowing It's coming and stopping It Is two different things. Manny still has tremendous speed and footwork which allows him to get away with that particular combination. It came at Rios for 12 rounds and there was nothing he could do about It.

That was more of a straight left that KOed Hatton doe.

I don't know if this would be possible though. You can improve your other punches, but your best punch is usually your best punch. It's usually just naturally like that. Some people naturally have a better hook others might have a better straight.

Oh, you mean what people call the "floyd style"? not really, manny pot shots and slips not but he still throws combos and busts up his opponent.

Pacquiao has all the physical tools to be a pretty good inside fighter but he instead chooses to clinch until he can get his mid to long range distance back. If you watch Pacquiao coming up he would actually step to you, a large part of his game wasn't based off of bouncing around, watch his really old fights and you'll see what I'm talking about. When you have much better physicals tools than Katsidis/ Juan Diaz and you can't even have their success in trapping Marquez, that says a lot about your inability to cut off the ring. Just think about that for a moment......

Maybe these things will develop as he slows down even more, maybe it'll force him to develop them.

I ain't say he got exposed at all but these are things Pacquiao has needed to work on for a while now. If he put less emphasis on looking for the straight left hand he may actually cut the ring off better and widen his arsenal of punches up close. If you don't see that I don't know what to tell you then.
