5 Knockouts in 16 bouts against sub-par opposition isn't the best KO ratio, but is it because he's patient, or because his punches don't hurt?

I recently watched one of his fights, and his speed is there. He knows how to use the jab - and it's like a laser. But does it have any power, or is he just sticking his hand out like a measuring stick.
Personally, watching the reaction of his opponent, the jab has some sting. I think Malignaggi will score more knockouts with accumulated damage, as he fights bouts with more rounds.
