Comments Thread For: Jorge Paez Jr. Stops Ivan Hernandez; Erik Morales Next?

Even as the evening's main event, Jorge Paez Jr's bout carried far less significance than the chief support between Zolani Tete and Juan Carlos Sanchez Jr. The aftermath helped even things out in a big way.

Paez Jr. celebrated his 26th birthday with a 7th round stoppage win over Colombia's Ivan Hernandez in their TV Azteca-televised headliner Saturday evening in Mexicali, Mexico.

The win itself didn't upstage Tete's upset knockout win over Sanchez Jr. in their 115 lb. title eliminator. What left people abuzz, however, as Paez Jr. accepting an in-ring challenge from former four-division titlist Erik Morales to square off as early as next March in Mexico.

FWIW... Morales is the one that stepped to Paez Jr. and offered the challenge.

Morales Nothing To Prove Fighting A 26 yr Old; Have JMM Step Up & Fight Morales

Marquez ducked Morales his entire career. While Marquez and Morales were having multiple fights with Barrera & Pacquiao in their prime, Marquez a former gym partner of Morales, would never fight Morales in their prime. As recent as a year and a half ago when Marquez was offered Morales in prep for Pacquiao IV, Marquez said NO. So there must be some story lines behind closed doors that could be told, of how Morales got the best of Marquez sparring in the Gym, because as Morales has expressed an interest, Marquez wants no part of Morales. Erik Morales doesn't need to tangle with any 26 year old at this point in his career, but would like to see Marquez man-up against a shot Morales just one time... Texas Stadium or Mexico City, would be a massive sell-out STILL. Marquez is probably afraid he'd lose another decision, then would have to beg Morales for a rematch, until the end of time.

That's just wrong. Morales is becoming another faded RJJ.

I think Morales should choose someone else. paez is a good young fighter who I would like to see climb the ladder and really do something. I do think Morales could get in shape again and give a good fight but someone a little older would be a better choice for a farewell fight. And also, how many of those damn shirts does Erik have? He's always wearing those same damn baby blue shirts as far as I can remember, he must have a closet full of em, all different sizes.
