Canelo has the leverage. Cotto is being offered more money than he will make with anyone else, including Martinez. Canelo will get his guaranteed money from Golden Boy no matter who he fights. They want to know so they can announce and hype the fight or move on with the Trout/Lara winner most likely.
I respect the hell out of him but Cotto needs Canelo more than the other way around. He will lose to either guy so the question is does he want to be a stepping stone for a young fighter for $10 million or get beat by an older man for less than half that.

It's virtually December, if the fight will happen in March, they 4 months from now to iron out the details, promote, and train before the day of the fight. So yeah, a bit rude, but understandable. Cotto feels that he is on top of the world because he beat Delvin Rodriguez, but he as far as top 10 fighters go he lost 2 in a row. The same two in a row Canelo fought but beat one at least,who Cotto lost to so IDK why people are bringing up Canelo's loss to Mayweather.

But didn't Cotto got a similar offer from Top Rank so he could fight Martinez. He could sign a fight with Martinez for June and then fight Canelo in November. Or Maybe if he beat Martinez he could go straight for Mayweather too.
