  • Comments Thread For: Light Heavyweight Division Gets A Jolt

by Cliff Rold - Early in 2013, Light Heavyweight didn’t look like the healthiest of classes. Bernard Hopkins, one fight removed from losing the lineal Light Heavyweight crown to the quicker, longer Chad Dawson, had picked up a belt with a win over Tavoris Cloud. Dawson was still licking his wounds from a drubbing loss one division down to Super Middleweight king Andre Ward.

While the Hopkins win, given his age, made for good copy it didn’t speak much for the future. Light Heavyweight felt like a class spinning its wheels.

It needed a couple pints of fresh blood to get hearts pumping again. [Click Here To Read More]

The winner of Pascal-Bute would rather fight B-Hop instead of Stevenson... This in case Ward doesn't take grandpa first...

Excellent headline. Stevenson and Kovalev have injected a jolt into a division that was basically a wasteland. Especially when the then champion of the division had dropped down and completely trash by the super middleweight champ.the was nothing potentially exciting that was gonna happen and Stevenson and Kovalev changed that. Kudos to them.

That said, just as quickly as the division has been revived. It can just as quickly die if these guys don't fight each other, B-Hop, or convince Ward to go ahead and make the move up. I assume HBO is putting them on the same card to build a big fight next year. But if that doesn't happen, people are gonna lose interest.

I don't really understand what Ward is doing. To my knowledge, Ward is tied to HBO. HBO doesn't do business with GBP, who's a partner with B-Hop. Not happening.

It should last too with two more high class punchers Artur Beterbiev and Egor Mekhontsev on the way up.
