Comments Thread For: Andy Lee Aims To Secure Matthew Macklin Clash

Last Saturday night, Irish middleweight Andy Lee made quick work of Hungarian Ferenc Hafner as he recorded a second-round stoppage win at the Phones4u Arena in Manchester. Lee, who is trying to get back into the world title mix following a loss to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr last year, completely dominated from the start. He scored his first knockdown in round one, a left hook to the body sending his opponent to the canvas, although Hafner beat the count.

I'm impressed with Andy Lee, he looked real powerful over the weekend, and clinical

        ^^ who Did he fight?

This would be a good fight, though. But Macklin shouldn't overlook Russ, it's the perfect opportunity for someone new to step on the scene and put his name out there, especially if Macklin is looking too far ahead

Will the Irish turn out to see these two fight? I'm not so sure.

It's possible. Lee is well known to the Irish public generally going back to his Olympic days, and Macklin would be reasonably well known in the wider sporting public. They'd definitely get some TV exposure and the novelty value of a big fight in Dublin would sell tickets. Far from a guaranteed hit though. If either could get a belt first it would be much bigger.

Off course both are pretty well known and while boxing wouldn't be in the top 3 sports right now it's still very popular.Put it on Patricks weekend in the o2 and it would sell out
