This is another common example of boxers who fight past their prime who say that they can still fight the best just because they went out and fought another past their prime fighter or journeyman and got a win or knockout. Not to discredit Anthony Mundine's win because it was after all a legit fight but to act as though that fight was proof that he can still compete with top level competition is not justified. The win has to be acknowledged for the reality of what it is. Which is that two old fighters just decided to fight each other not to prove anything but to earn another paycheck. Which they have the right to do so, but the public must not be fooled into thinking that they are suddenly back. That is basically the same as a retired NBA player going to the local park and balling up some players from the city team and then claiming that he is still good enough to play in the NBA. A ball player will always know how to play ball and a boxer will always know how to box but there's a difference between competing with the average and competing with the elite.

Excellent post. I agree with everything you said. What really got to me though is the card itself. The commision forced them to remove fights due to chronic mismatches. They had a half an hour delay because they couldnt find gloves (AT A BLOODY BOXING MATCH???). Mundine has a track record of making undercard fighters fight for free on his cards, saying that the publicity is reward enough. The commentary was so painfully and rediculously biased that it was obvious that the staff had been chosen and paid for by the Mundine camp. Mundine was allowed to wear his guard up under his arm pits as usual. Im just sorry to the rest of the viewing public. Australia is better than this. Please dont judge us by this circus.
