Its benefited Groves, for sure. If the ref hadn't jumped in, Froch would have got a legitimate stoppage and Groves would fall down the pecking-order for another world title shot. As it is, he's going to get another shot immediately against Froch or Stieglitz.

The ref did George a favour.

          I think he harmed both.

I've seen Groves hurt before and come back, but Foster robbed him of that chance. One could also argue that he robbed froch of the chance at a clean and conclusive knock out. Seemed like the fight was turning his way and Groves's best rounds were behind him. Had the ref not stopped it early froch may well have gotten the clean stoppage a few seconds later or at least have come on stronger and stronger in the last few rounds and perhaps taken him out later. Conversely Groves may have shown true grit, gotten through the rough patch and gone on to win. Foster basically ruined the fight and left nothing but question marks at the end of it rather than a clear decisive winner.

I think Froch was on his way to a stoppage win regardless, every round he was getting stronger......and he had a lot of time left in the 9th round. That said, the stoppage looked a bit early. A decent stoppage would have given Froch another classic come from behind victory!

Groves has elevated himself by his performance though. He will get another world title shot with this effort.

My worry is that if a rematch is made, Froch will have to walk through a scary amount of heavy punishment again for six rounds or so.....at his age and with his wealth, gorgeous girlfriend and baby Rocco he really needs to consider his long term health. Having a great chin does not mean you won't suffer brain damage.

I think its time for him to call it a day as a true British legend and let Groves and Degale fight for the vacant titles.

Obviously Froch, who was on the verge of knocking George Groves spark out. Now he's having to deal with idiots throwing all sorts of shit at him.

Groves has come out of it pretty well despite the defeat, with his health intact and a swell of support from bandwagon jumpers. His performance will get him another title shot soon enough.
