Charlo vs Rosado on Peterson-Jean Card

Junior middleweight Jermell Charlo, of Houston, Tex., will face Philadelphia's two-time middleweight title challenger Gabriel Rosado on Jan. 25 in Washington, D.C., at the D.C. Armory, according to Golden Boy Promotion matchmaker Eric Gomez.

The 154-pound 10-round bout between Charlo (22-0, 11 knockouts) and Rosado (21-7, 13 KOs) will support the junior welterweight clash between IBF titleholder Lamont Peterson (31-2-1, 16 KOs) and mandatory challenger Dierry Jean (25-0, 17 KOs).

Charlo, 23, is coming off last month's 10th-round stoppage of Jose Rodriguez, and Rosado, 27, last month's 10th-round TKO loss to WBO middleweight titleholder Peter Quillin.

Prior to facing Quillin, Rosado had lost a split-decision in May to J'Leon Love that became a no-decision after Love failed his post-fight drug examination.

Before the bout with Love, Rosado lost by a bloody seventh-round stoppage to WBA middleweight titleholder Gennady Golovkin in January, ending his run of seven straight victories, five of them by knockout.

"It's a done deal. It's signed, and it's a great fight for both fighters," Gomez told ******.com. "Jermell Charlo has been a project for us from day one, but now he's at the point where he's got to prove what he's made of. For Rosado, he's been getting better and better and he's been in every fight. This is going to be a very tough fight for both guys."

Meanwhile, both Peterson and Jean were last in the ring in May, with Peterson, of D.C., being stopped in the third round of a non-title bout against Lucas Matthysse, and Jean, of Quebec, Canada, scoring a fourth-round TKO over Cleotis Pendarvis.
Peterson is 4-1-1, with three knockout victories since falling by unanimous decision to current WBO 147-pound beltholder Tim Bradley as a 140-pounder in December of 2009.

The winner of Peterson-Jean could be in the mix for a host of solid bouts against Golden Boy fighters in the 140-pound division, perhaps even Matthysse or unbeaten RING, WBA and WBC 140-pound champion Danny Garcia, who unanimously decisioned Matthysse in September.

If Rosado's face holds up and no big cuts open he should take this fight will relative ease. I'm not impressed with Charlo at all.
