Chinese TV makes mistakes on Pacquiao Rios broadcast

In an effort to get eyes on the product, TOP RANK broadcast their Pacquiao Rios ppv for free in China. But the broadcast pattern of CCTV5, the state media sports provider, meant that the sport of boxing could have lost as many casual fans as it gained.

It just says that the atmosphere of the Yang Lianhui vs Hero Tito fight was stale so it wasn't exciting for viewers and not a great fight to put on after the main event was already over. But I doubt it did any serious harm, Top Rank are probably just trying to follow the US format where the main event is the last fight.

I think it's actually better for the Chinese market to show a Chinese fighter as the final fight, even if he's not the main event, it could help encourage more Chinese kids to get into boxing, and there are going to be some great boxers who will emerge.

It's nice that it was free then. I kept hearing people say it would be on PPV, but I never read anything confirming it except some old article where arum talked about the possibility.
