Froch backtracks, says only way groves gets a rematch is if his trainer agrees

Carl Froch says he will only offer George Groves a rematch if both his trainer and promoter agree to it.

Froch bounced back from a first-round knockdown to stop Groves in the ninth and retain his IBF and WBA super-middleweight titles.

Referee Howard Foster was roundly criticised for stopping the fight too early, which has led to calls for a rematch, but Froch says that decision is not down to him.

"I was supposed to flatten George Groves in round one but got flattened myself, and I'm man enough to admit it."
    Carl Froch

Froch told Sky Sports News: "I'm happy to honour the crowd, fans and George Groves with a rematch, if my trainer and promoter both agree.

"I don't swerve or duck anybody. If George wants a rematch and it makes sense, then of course we'll get it on. It's not my decision."

Froch admitted he was surprised by Groves' strong start to the bout but battled back to stop his tiring opponent in the ninth round.

"I had a slow start and got caught clean on the jaw with a very good right hand, and got flattened on the seat of my pants," said Froch.

"I was supposed to flatten George Groves in round one but got flattened myself, and I'm man enough to admit it.
    Stoppage

"But like Rocky Balboa said, it's not about how many times you get flattened, it's how many times you come back from it.

"I got off the floor, carried on fighting and forced a stoppage in round nine. I turned the fight around and defended my title in style.

"I challenge any man to take that right hand off George Groves, get up and fight the way I did. It takes a lot of heart, guts, fitness and strength to do that."

Froch now intends to take a break from boxing and says any decision on his next fight won't be made until the New Year.

"It's been a very busy year for me and I've not had any time at home with my beautiful family," he said.

"I'm going to spend some quality time with them, get Christmas out of the way, and see what the New Year brings."
what a SOB, we all know groves was robbed, he was defending himself and avoiding nearly every hit froch was hitting, froch knows he will not survive the rematch

WE also know groves fights on a fight by fight basis with any promoters after his previous disputes, Hearn will demand a long term deal and I still expect froch's delusional trainer who was making up total bs last night to move in another direction

I thought froch was a man, I told you all, the rematch bs he said was to stop the crowed booing him last night

no way team froch give groves a rematch, they will run away with the robbery, the ref should be fired, he was a disgrace

The funny part is that team grove tried to get an overseas ref to official the fight, froch refused and now we know why

Carl Froch is sharting his bricks, he knows he will lose in a rematch

Groves will only get better and iron out some of the petty mistakes he made

Froch cant adjust, old leopard never changes his spots

    Keep running Froch,

At least he asks his trainer and not his mother.

Froch is a disgrace. He knows he would get eaten by Groves, Golovkin and Ward.

IDK - this would be a big money fight for Froch, specially in London. At this stage in his career he just wants to get the best £s he can - he's got perhaps 4 or 5 fights left - what are his options for good money?

          Ward II
          Chavez Jr
          GGG
          Kessler III
          Groves II
          DeGale

TBH Groves II could bring in as much as any of the others (cept perhaps CCJ jr.), specially in the UK - perhaps at the O2.

Frochs star has faded in the UK after last night

He came in being cheered and adored to the rafters and left being booed and people shouting "I want my money back Froch you ****t" and "what a fix"

Nobody wants to see Froch fight Kessler or Ward after last night, the punters will not pay. He has to fight Groves or retire like a *****

Last night was a marketing disaster for Frochs brand, Groves is now seen as the star and fan favourite over Froch, a lot can change in 24hrs , crazy

Lennox beat the living daylights out of Vitali, busted his eye open and had buckets of blood pouring, it was a good stoppage

                Horrible comparison

froch went down big time in my books, the dude is simply a prick

I called it here, I knew he would duck groves, this is the start, watch him take an easier fight

could you imagine if froch got stopped like that, he would be screaming mad, when it is not him, he makes all the excuses in the world for the ref and him

he knows he got schooled and got a gift to keep his belts, now he wants no more of george

The hate for Froch is ridiculous to say the least.

Stoppage was horrible but Groves was badly hurt and would have been stopped very shortly anyway.
