Comments Thread For: Photos: Yoan Pablo Hernandez Bombs Out Alekseev

Stechert Arena, Bamberg, Bayern, Germany - Yoan Pablo Hernandez (28-1, 14 KOs) proved his champion's character once again with a hard-fought stoppage win of his mandatory challenger Alexander Alekseev (24-3-1, 20 KOs) in the tenth round. The Germany-based Cuban stylist retained his IBF cruiserweight title for the third time and returned 14 months since his last victory over Troy Ross.

lmao I was gonna comment on that. Was it really necessary for him to straddle Alekseev like that? lol

I want YPH to get another belt. Maybe Wlodarczyk after he dismantles Fragomeni in a pointless third fight next month.

Alekseev should have been allowed to try getting up. Alekseev was hurt bad after the knock down in the 5th but got up took a huge assault and recovered. On any fair scorecard Alekseev should have been winning i think it was some home town officiating to ensure Hernandez retained his belt especially after their Heavyweight Boytsov lost. If the situation was reversed do you think the ref would have jumped on top of Yoan without giving him the oppertunity to rise?

I didn't watch the fight, so I can't comment on it; but Pablo certainly seems to have benefited from his Sauerland connection before: the first fight with Cunningham, and the Troy Ross fight. I mean, I like Pablo a lot, I think he's a terrific fighter, a champion and a class act, but the truth is the truth.

I'm usually all for giving fighters the chance to go on...but Alekseev just looked messed up after that one. Perhaps he should have been allowed to try to get to his feet, but I doubt he woulda made it or been steady enough to continue if he had.

The cards were maybe a bit wide, but I think it was YBHs anyway, specially with the KDs.

He was coming on strong in the second half of the fight but I still had Alexeev down 84-86 after nine rounds (I had scored the 4th 10-10 which I felt was being generous to him).

Alexeev himself admitted in the German TV post-fight interview that he was done after getting hit with that punch in the 10th round. The referee was right in stopping the fight.
