Comments Thread For: Photos: Alex Leapai Shocks Denis Boytsov in Bamberg

Stechert Arena, Bamberg, Bayern, Germany - It took Denis Boytsov five years to become the most promising heavyweight prospect in the division. At 23, Boytsov had experience, youth, punching power and support system to become the heir apparent to the Klitschko's throne... possibly. It took him five more years to see his career ruined. His downward spiral continued tonight at the Stechert Arena, where he suffered his first and painful defeat to WBO #8 Australian (by way of Samoa) Alex Leapai. The latter defended his WBO Asia Pacific title, scoring two knockdowns en route to a big win. Official scores were: 98-90 and 96-92 (twice) - for the guest fighter. [Click Here To Read More]

Well done to Alex. Hopefully he can capitalise on this win and move towards facing a top contender

What happened to Boystov? A few years ago he seemed a real challenger and had a good run then he went on a years long run of no bodies, what happened with his WBO/WBA rankings? Wasn't he international or European champion with some of those governing bodies? Why'd he fall off the map and how'd he lose to a bum like Leapai?

Wow, what an upset by Leapai! Tough fight for Boytsov, but he's only 27 and can build himself up again. After Tua's recent loss, it's good to see another Samoan heavyweight going after the top guys... He needs maybe two or three more big wins to position him for a title shot.

I'd like to see him face the Australian Lucas Browne...

I was hoping for the upset; with a win against Leapai, Boystov was to receive a title shot against Wladimir Klitschko. I'm glad Leapai pulled the upset, Boytsov was undeserving of a title shot and we would've seen the same old domination by Klitschko of a sub par opponent.
