"MY" consistent criteria for HOF in any sport is "Was this guy among the very best of his generation?"

Baseball HOF has some hard-n-fast numbers that get you in: 500 homers, 3000 strikesouts, 300 wins, etc. But in other sports that aren't stat-intensive, I just apply the "best of his generation" test.

I said "MY" because I understand that other people may apply a different set of criteria.

Anyone can go to war with bums...Well not anyone, but you know what I mean

It's all about being able to go to war against world class fighters....

The DeLaHoya and Mayweather fights were VERY onesided !

Supposedly...Gatti has ducked a bunch of big punchers in the past!

I think if Gatti is to win he should get in. I mean, even if he wasn't the greatest p4p fighter at anytime he still was well above average. Also, he excited fans, that alone might be enough. I mean, I'm torn. Heart says yes, brain says no. I'm leaning towards yes.

I don't know what the boxing HOF criteria is. Now with that being said, Gatti has been in some of the best wars in the past 8 to 10 years in boxing. It's what makes him a great draw. But the times he has been against HOF CALIBER opponents, he has got his ass beat. Not out boxed, not close majority decisioned, but smoked. And he has never had a rematch with either of the two that crushed him. I don't won't to get into a pissing contest about, "well so and so didn't wan't the rematch, or so and so was not about fair splits in the money". If Gatti was that big of a draw, he should have had his rematches. But Gatti got smashed, and his opponents didn't think twice about him. Gatti can beat all the Damgaards(sp), or Baldomirs he wants, but until he beats a true world class champ, he dosen't get my vote (like I have some vote to give)

LOL, no ****. Excitement automatically equals HOF. Raetaard isn't the brightest bulb in the factory.

Boxing's HOF isn't nearly as sacred as the MLB or even the NFL, plenty of title-holders and top contenders make it into the Hall, Gatti will make it based purely on reputation and popularity alone
Sit down, kid. You really don't know what your talking about.

Henry Armstrong was a 3 division champ. Arturo Gatti was never a "champ" at any weight, he was a titlist. Suggesting that Gatti deserves to be in the HOF suggests how much of a moron you are. Anyone with half a brain knows he WON'T get there and SHOULD NOT get there.

He definitely doesn't make it based on his record as a fighter. The thing is, he's a fighter that's helped rejuvinate the sport in the eyes of a lot of people, and he's helped attract a lot of new fans. If they decide to let him because of that, I wouldn't be upset.
