Comments Thread For: Roach Respects Pacquiao's Approach To Knockout Loss

Freddie Roach admires Manny Pacquiao for many reasons, but he has been especially impressed with how the Filipino legend dealt with getting knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez.

Pacquiao’s trainer knows all too well how getting knocked out can adversely affect a boxer’s career. Roach recalled that his first knockout defeat, a second-round technical knockout loss to Lenny Valdez in July 1982, did irreparable damage to his career.

Im not a huge Pac fan but I do give high respect on his outlook, especially the way he handles defeat. Any man that handle defeat the way he does, really can not be defeated.

he better get rios out of there very quick. if rios gets one good shot on that cracked chin. pacquiao is returning to the moon.once the oxygen is cut off from that kind of shot that he took from the great marquez.the brain is ready to react on chin contact.

This fight tonight won't show or prove anything. Manny Pacquaio is supposedly an elite fighter. He's in tonight with a guy that is so outclassed, Pac will likely be met with lil or no resistance to test whether he has any lasting effects from the KO loss. If anything happens tonight other than Pac totally destroying this guy. It will simply show that Pac's days as an elite fighter are over and he needs to hang his gloves up.

I see this fight as Pac-Margarito II in terms of style. So I'm confused when analysts like Teddy Atlas predict a 6 Round KO win for Pacquiao. That makes no sense to me.

Now that Pac lost a step and Rios is young, fresh and hungry, HOW CAN PEOPLE PREDICT A BETTER OUTCOME THAN PACQUIAO-MARGARITO?? I think Atlas has his own agenda to give himself a reason to criticize Pacquiao if he doesn't KO Rios in 6.

@FloydvsPac: I assume that since Rios is pretty much Pac's size, opposed to being 4"-5" taller and 20lbs heavier, people too seem he won't hold up as well against the assault he's ggonna face tonight. Also, Margarito has a special chin. Don't think Rios' is on the same level. The fact is, very few guys that eat as many clean punches as Bam Bam are gonna be able to hold up against a fighter like Pac who hits that hard, is that fast, and who throws combinations as well as Pac does.

As for this, "Pac's lost a step" nonsense. I wish people would kill that bull****. There is very lil to no signs of obvious physical decline. His difficulties over his last three fights. Has nothing to do with him being past it. He was simply back in the ring against fellow elitesfor the first time in a long time.

Margarito was previously KO'd before fighting Pacquiao, so his chin was suspect going in too. And since Rios has a proven chin and never been KO'd, I just don't see him suddenly and easily getting KO'd like people are saying. Also, I think EVERY fighter's confidence is shaken after a KO loss and Pac is no exception. So for me to expect to see the same Pacquiao that we saw against Margarito is not rational.

And don't forget we have to factor in VADA testing for this fight as well.
