Comments Thread For: Donaire on The Roach/Garcia/Ariza Gym Scuffle

2012 “Fighter of the Year” Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire believes that the melee involving trainers Freddie Roach and Robert Garcia as well as Brandon Rios’ strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza may be a setback to the growth of professional boxing in China.

Donaire told the Manila Standard that China “is not into that kind of stuff and are respectful of the fight game. They take martial arts differently from other people.”

He said “to show lack of respect for each other might work in the United States because they like that kind of stuff but it will raise questions in the mind of the Chinese.”

Donaire at the same time said Ariza “should never do some of the things that he does but that’s how he is.”

It is weird how all that macho, chest thumping stuff in sport seems to be more of a Western thing. That's not to say it's exclusively a Western thing, but it seems to be way more prevalent here.

Look at the way Pacquaio acts by comparison. There's literally none of that stuff with him and he was about as dangerous a guy as there was in the sport at his peak. A lot of people seem to think that 'you have to be that way to be a fighter'. But clearly you don't. It's optional.

That Manny shill Ronnie Nathanielz conveniently leaves out mentioning Roach said multiple racist comments, while at the same time demonizing Ariza.

Well, there is the raised-hands thing he does every time after getting hit. Maybe not chest-beating, but still a display of machismo. He's not exactly a shrinking violet at weigh-ins, either.

The more exciting you are inside the ring, the less you have to try and sell the fight

thats why guys like floyd, Malinaggi etc have to talk alot of **** before the fight
