As far as the ring belt goes,

3)The Champion does not schedule a fight in any weight class for 18 months.
          4) The Champion does not schedule a fight at his championship weight for 18 months (even if he fights at another weight).
          5) The Champion does not schedule a fight with a Top-5 contender from any weight class for two years.

So Cotto and Canelo won't cost him that because they are both top 5.

You can't be stripped of a lineal title. It doesn't even physically exist. It's a notion more than anything. By definition it's the man who beat the man. Key word being BEAT. You can't lose it unless you get beat or basically retire.

The idea of being stripped of the lineal championship is absurd. You know that if you weren't such a knowledgeable **** **** poster

You can't be stripped of something earned by lineage, (meaning you can follow the man who beat the man in a direct line).

The meaning of the linage can lose meaning if a dude holds the belt hostage for a long period and eventually if long enough no one will consider the holder of the champion anymore but still they would be the champion by lineage.

Right now Sergio is only scratching the surface of this subject, if he continues to not fight the correct guys in a year people won't care much for his lineage anymore.
