Comments Thread For: Ward: Golovkin Fight Would Be Bigger Down the Line

The demand for a fight between undefeated champions Andre Ward and Gennady Golovkin is brewing as both men appear to be on a collision course to face each other soon. Ward is looking for a name opponent to fight after cleaning out the super middleweight division and while his eyes might be set on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and Bernard Hopkins, Golovkin is also a very viable option.

Golovkin is one of the hardest punchers in the game and has been building quite a reputation as he’s demolished every opponent put in front of him. The only thing Golovkin is missing is a big name on his resume and Ward would definitely fit the bill. [Click Here To Read More]

I like Andre Ward, I think he's the #1 P4P fighter (Sorry Floyd fans..he runs more of a risk at his weight) but we all know full well Ward just hit the gravy train not that long ago ain't no wayyyyy in hell he's jumping into a ring with Golovkin until it's a last option for him...soon as GGG moves up so will Ward saying "i'm looking for a new challenge" and by then 175 should be a lot less dangerous for him.

GGG needs to become the man at MW before he goes for Ward
either win the world title from Martinez or unify a couple ABC's
Ward-GGG just seems halfassed right now, Ward is right with this
not even thinking of the luster, just the merit
GGG has good opponents to face at MW still
surprised if Ward stays at 168 at this point, guess he wants to though
even if Ward was willing to do it right now, GGG is dumb to rush it
wanna see GGG take on some greater threats at MW first

Ward don't get your hopes up. HBO will keep GGG away from you. They will get him in with Chavez Jr. before you too.

Here's the condundrum for Ward. If and when that fight is financially viable as a PPV money maker. Me thinks GGG will be the A side in terms of bringing in more eye balls and PPV buys. That's going to be a contentious negotiation if/when it happens. Ward will want A-Side props and money but GGG will make a strong case that other than the 168 strap and #2 P4P claim GGG brings in everything else. And he might be right.

GG brings nothing to the table for a Ward fight right now. His resume is shabby at best, but he's winning his fights by ko over guys that he's supposed to ko. The only thing that I'm hoping when this fight comes around is that if and when this fight is made, Ward is not struggling to make 168.

You have some delusion that HBO is protecting golovkin, having enough influence to make him FOTY, blah blah blah. Ward is an HBO fighter too who just got 2+ mil to face a guy like Rodriguez and ward has been saying he wants Chavez himself. Stop with the whining already

Any word on ratings for Ward-Rodriguez?

Golovkin is already doing bigger ratings than Sergio on HBO. Sergio's fights have done around a million over the past few years, with the Murray fight slipping below that to 750k.

GGG did a million plus for the Mackln fight, and 1.5m for Stevens. He keeps going like this and he almost certainly would be the A-side against Ward.
