Anthony Joshua's Trainer Calls Him Rubbish & Garbage

Story from last week but I can't remember seeing it on the site here..

Anthony Joshua has revealed his coach repeatedly tells him he's rubbish.

The Olympic champion has made a blistering start to his professional career, winning his first two fights with eye-catching knockouts.

And Joshua returns to the ring on Thursday night against Croatian Hrvoje Kisicek as part of a Prizefighter show featuring former three-weight world champion James Toney.

'The only thing I listen to about my prospects is what my coach tells me, and he tells me I am rubbish and I have a lot to work on,' he said. 'He tells me I have to keep my feet on the ground, that there are a lot of people out there who are better than me; that is why I need to keep on grafting in the gym.

'I do appreciate what people are saying about my prospects but it is early doors. I will challenge whoever they put in front of me to my best capability and give it my best behind the scenes so that I can showcase that I have been working hard under the bright lights. One step at a time, I have a long way to go.'

Joshua, 24, returns to London's iconic York Hall for the first time since he was an amateur.

'It is a really intimate theatre of boxing,' he added. 'There will be less than 2,000 people and everyone is over your head.

'The last time I boxed there was when I was an amateur, winning the ABAs. That was a great feeling so to go back there in my third pro fight with Prizefighter is going to be really good again. It is going to be great to get in there.'

Good counter-balance to all the people blowing smoke up his backside telling him he's the next Lennox.

His trainer has probably realised Joshua works better when he is kept fully under control.

Yeah, he appears to have his feet on the ground, not getting ahead of himself.

His defence looked very leaky at the Olympics, he has a fair bit to work on imo.

I've had a boxing coach call me a lot worse than that! My coach was right though. Still probably fair to try and balance out a bunch of yes men.

Even his trainer knows Wilder would ice him. But he is alright.

Wilder probably wouldnt have much of a chance surviving against Joshua but it will be a good fight when it happens. Joshua should KO Wilder within 8, at least right now unless Wilder improves dramatically.
