Max kellerman is doing a great job

Larry Merchant was a great boxing commentator for a long time and I am
glad HBO replaced him with Max Kellerman.First off,the people that say "you
should not be commentating if you've never boxed before" don't know what
the hell they are talking about.HBO always has the "real boxer" doing
announcing as well, such as Roy Jones,Lennox Lewis,George Foreman etc.
but you need to have a PROFESSIONAL COMMENTATOR running the show.
Max Kellerman has to be an entertainer, able to articulate words
to create a story line to captivate the high demands of an HBO audience.
This is not an easy task, and just because you have boxed before that
doesn't mean you can do this. The commentating by Roy Jones,Jim Lampley,
and Max Kellerman are three different things.Max leads,Jim covers the action,
and Roy explains what a fighter is thinking.Good job Max.

Everything Kellerman says is so scripted he sounds like a video game commentator from the 90s.

I personally cant stand him. He adds nothing to the broadcasts. He's there to toe the company line and his hyperboles are insufferable. He doesnt set the stage. His boxing analysis is decent but then he blows that by making an overly exaggerated statement. His post-fights interview arent that good. Jim Gray is much better than him in that.

A lot of people on this site hate Max. Well a lot of people on this site are the biggest haters period. With that being said I think Max is great commentator. Max knows his shyyyt!

Between Max and Paulie those two are the best commentators.

Larry Merchant IS the man, HBO need to bring him back.

I remember when i first watched an HBO broadcast and they wheeled out this old guy with white hair talking extremely slow. I actually thought it was one big joke.

Max is the best in the business. He's intelligent, articulate and knowledgeable. His infusion of historical references into his commentary is quite amazing. He's also very critical of judges and challenges the sport to become better. It's sad that he only is remembered for making one or two hyperboles during or after an intense moment of a fight.

I wouldn't expect high ratings from Max on these boards. The level of intelligence on this site is remarkably low.

Kellerman is atrocious. The pre-fight scripted speeches he always does to camera would be about the most awkward and cringeworthy thing on telelevision if it wasn't for his post fight interviews. HBO's team is so painfully bad, ruining fights with their incessant discussion about other fights and such like whilst a fight is actually going on. Manny Steward was the only reason to enjoy the HBO commentary. Showtime is a lot better, Malignaggi and Bernstein put Kellerman to shame.

You know Kellerman is truly awful when you realize that you miss Larry Merchant.

out of all the professional commentators, I think only Kellerman and Bernstein really have it together. otherwise, there's greatness from jones jr, malignaggi, manny steward RIP, but the professional commentators are generally poor.
Kellerman knows a lot more than most of them and speaks well
he actually makes a big effort to understand boxing (and does a good job), whereas many others just call it as they see it -through uneducated eyes- which no doubt fits the style of most watchers of boxing

I feel like he will get more tolerable the older he gets, but thats a 50/50.. he could just become old and senile and have flashbacks to these times and Manny Pacquiao and Golovkin.
