To polish their style as much as possible before turning pro

Because for them, being a pro isn't everything

To tell you the truth its probably better for their careers long term whether they know it or not because at 18-19 you are not really a physically or mentally mature man yet, that doesn't happen until your mid 20s at least.

Bad losses early against grown men when your still a boy can ruin a fighter for good mentally and they may not bounce back ever.

I think he means there's less incentive to become "THE MAN"

Nowadays with correct management and the right talent, they can earn enough riches than they would of had to as opposed to decades ago.

Adrien Broner is already a three weight world champion. Lomachenko is closing in on a title shot.

As long as you are marketable via personality or skills(even if they're not the best; correct management) you can earn sufficient riches without striving to be the GOAT. Of course they can all talk as if they're the GOAT.. but its all opinion.

              Its a chain reaction.

Considering fighters are startinig to fight in the amatuers at an older age, they are turning pro at an older age. Also the Americans that are good or great amatuers are staying in the ams until the Olympics before they turn pro. Most guys best chances are at 21-25 not 17-21 to medal in the games

Fighters arent starting out at 5, 6, 7, years old like back in the day in the ams. A lot of guys are starting in their teens

In places like Russia and countries around there, their top boxers are treated very well and winning an olympic gold medal is probably the top honor. Guys like Lomachenko get paid over in europe and asia. I read the lomachenko was a millionaire before he ever even went pro.

he means that they want to stay amateurs, usually for the olympics. after each olympics a good deal of top guys who either had olympic aspirations, or who made olympic teams, turn pro. some guys are staying in the amateurs into adulthood now, often looking to make another olympic team eventually. obviously there are other major amateur tournaments each year as well.

Were living longer, sports persons are having longer careers, football (soccer) players are performing well in their mid 30's with a healthy life style.

The higher boxing weights which are more popular, guys can perform at the top level well into late 30's on average now.

So you can get away with starting amatuer and pro careers later than previous era's.
