Question for Mexican Fans: Why do boxers like Morales refuse to speak english?

Like why does he even need a interpreter when he talks to Larry Merchant. It seems like Morales knows and understands english perfectly well. Is it a thing about pride? Is it selling out if you speak in english?

Also why does manny need a philipino translater in his corner? Roach was giving him instructions and a guy was translating it to him

yea yo, Morales spoke alil bit of English when he got interviewed, but IT JUST SLIPPED out.

When Merchant asked him if he wants a rematch Morales went "Maybe...." then started speaking Spanish again.

Then when Merchant asked if what was different wit Pac this time around, he went "No No no, he's not......" then spanish again. LOL!

probably the same reason i refuse to speak spanish at a mexican restaurant. they dont want to sound like idiots screwing up the language. it could be some sort of pride thing too i suppose but i think it's more a confidence thing. maybe im wrong.

I think you hit it on the head when you said that it was about pride, it's hard to explain but theirs been alot of fighters like that not just mexicans, tito and cotto do the same thing.

Pac don't need no translation in corner. Though I think Manny also appreciate what tha doo (Buboy) does when he tells him what to do in tagalog/bisaya.

Understanding another language is easy compared to speaking it.

that's true, but at Morals' level, HE CAN SPEAK it. I've seen him slip out some english words. Like, "Maybe" or "no no he's not"
