I have never ever criticized Andre Ward but damn that's some sucker shh. Listen the man didn't make weight...he's already coughing up 40k because of it..mind you that 40k comes out of his pocket and not the promoter, the promoter still get's his percentage like the guy is earning 200k for this fight. Now when is the next time Rodriguez is going to make 200k if he loses? Likely never again..Ward on the other hand ain't hurting and if HBO and them are paying 2.5 million per bout to the headlining fight that means ward is already pulling in at least 1.5 million..are in theory already making about 8 times what your opponent is making and still want 40k from him in addition? G T F O H..Wasn't Ward calling this guy a tune up? Seriously W T F!

Still it's Rodríguez who's obviously to blame for this mess and Ward is put in an ackward situation. Had he not been out 14 months, he should have just pulled out like Michael Spinks did before a unification with Eddie Gregory (I think it was).
and thats the problem.........I don't assume.

unless i see someone from team ward coming out and confirming this theres always 2 sides to the story.

& btw....i can totally see hbo on the fly coming up with a plan to push the fight through by all means necessary. dibella is going off of what hbo presented as a remedy to the situation........

the problem is at that point there was still no word from team ward.

[QUOTE=PBP;13934677]The fight will go on. Like I said. Lawyers are just doing what there supposed to. Get the most money for their client. You ask for 4 you may get a extra 2.[/QUOT If Ward pulls out, for whatever reason, it would look to a lot of people as if he were ducking Rodriguez. That could do more harm to his image than the extra money could to repair it. Perception becomes reality.

Ward is already getting a cut from the 20% the California commission is taking from Edwin and he's getting another cut from the 35% the WBA charges. Incidentally the 35% the WBA charges is split up into 25% goes to the WBA and 10% goes to Ward - but since Ward is fighting for the 45% cut, that would mean that 30% would go to the WBA and 15% goes to Ward. And here Ward is threatening to quit the fight over 5%? Yes, the fact is Edwin came in over and is getting punished justly but Ward is threatening to stop the fight if he doesn't get his measly extra 5%? Tell me that's not being greedy.
We can finally agree...Ward is being greedy, but I'm sure if any one of you were professional boxers you would do the same damn thing. Even if you yourself personally did not see this mishap, your lawyers/attorneys would point it out to you and say "hey you can get more money legally because reason A, B, C. Your telling me you would just say awww **** it and not maximize your potential earnings, in a sport like boxing where one punch can end your career ruining any money coming in for your family? Come on now...im not taking food out of my families mouth when the option is there to make even more money. Quit kidding yourself guys...THIS IS A BUSINESS. Come in on weight and this whole thread is non-existent.

Ward wouldn't pull out. His management team and lawyers would terminate the contract. And if they did that, every single one of them would be fired.

25/30% goes to the promoter, not the WBA. I posted a link to the regulations earlier in the thread

Absent contractual provisions to the contrary, if the bout takes place, a boxer who does not make weight after the two-hour extension shall forfeit 35% of his purse, with 25% going to the promoter and 10% to his opponent. In addition, the boxer shall pay the Association the bout sanction fee. A boxer who refuses to attempt to make weight during the two-hour extension shall forfeit 45% of his purse, with 30% going to the promoter and 15% going to his opponent.

I don't blame Ward. Rules are rules and fighters not making weight has become a problem.

Fuck the moaning fans on Boxingscene, Ward or his team would do what he has to do to make Ward comfortable, his name isn't Rodriguez.. The funny thing is when Manny Pacquiao was charging mutherfuckers $1M per every pound a fighter turns up overweight I didn't hear a pip from the same people who are now calling Ward "Greedy"

HBO will cover the difference and figure it out later. Ward pulls out, he'll never be on HBO again....he knows this.
