Comments Thread For: Photos: Ustinov Retires David Tua With Dominating Win

David Tua confirmed his professional boxing career was over after his unanimous points defeat to Belarusian Alexander Ustinov in Hamilton tonight. Ustinov dominated off of scores of 119-109, 119-110, 119-108

"I got into very good shape believing I could win this fight ... I tried my best but it wasn't enough," Tua said.

"I think the fire isn't there, it's time to think about something else.

"That's it for David Tua. I thank the people of New Zealand, I thank the people of the south Pacific ... David Tua has left the building."

No surprise. I came on here and said Tua looked 50 and someone else said wait and see how sharp Tua looks when he beats Ustinov...yeah right. Tua has been done at the high level for a long time, just like Toney. I'd say stick a fork in them they are done but the fork was stuck in them long ago, they were done long ago.

Prime Tua and Prime Tyson would have been good. While it lasted.

I was going to say that too. Tua vs Toney would be an interesting fight. That should be Tua's retirement fight but I suppose it won't happen.

I'm not too surprised. I wanted Tua to win of course, but I realize that he hasn't been even near the top in some time.
