Mares really needs to look impressive in the rematch if he wants to be considered back in the mix at 126. Getting stopped in the first round against a stepping stone/shopworn/past prime fighter is the worst thing that could happen to a young p4p rising star in the ring...but I feel like we might see the same result but maybe at a later round.

Mares is too small to handle jonnhys power. Mares looked tiny in the ring.
He always was a brawler with good speed.
He cant just box lil more to win... he has to attack, and there he s going right in the line for Jhonny's hard shots...

Although Johnny is 32 years old and has 63 pro fights is hard to consider him a "stepping stone" because he is still a tough guy with decent speed, an average defense and lots of power (47 of his 55 victories came via KO). Johnny has also one of the best trainers of the planet: Nacho Beristain and that is also very important specially in title fights. However, I agree that Mares needs to look great against Johnny if he wants to be considered against in the elite of the division. We'll see whether or not Abner learned from his first professional defeat.
