    Boxing Needs a Complete Overhaul

This sport has so many things wrong with it. Damn. Most people will just say, "that's just the nature of the sport." But, that type of attitude is pathetic and passive. "Let's just ignore the problem," most would argue. I'm sick of it. I want to try and change this sport for the better. Some problems I see with this sport are the mismatches, the judging, the promotional feuds, the failure to make weight from fighters, the sanctioning bodies and their divisional rankings, mandatories, referee incompetence at protecting fighters, corner incompetence at protecting fighters, etc. The sport has big problems and if they are addressed, maybe it can be what it once was. Fighters are human beings and they deserve to be respected and treated with dignity. Boxing is the toughest profession and thing these dudes go through is too much. How can we change this sport for the better?

Mismatches: Have some kind of athletic commission review records and past fights in order to prevent mismatches, where fighters usually get brutally koed or injured. I don't want to see some Olympic boxer fight a dude that is 3-7 or some record like that. This stuff has to stop. It's disgusting.

Judging: So much corrupt judging, it's disgusting. Right off the bat, get some kind of computer system to judge fights. Put sensor in gloves to count punches and other statistics. Take away the subjectivity from the judging process. Establish clear criteria for establishing a winner in a fight.

Promotional Feuds: Well, this one might be tougher. But, The belts from sanctioning bodies should only be made available to fighters who are willing to take on all opponents and not just fighters from their own company.

Sanctioning Bodies: Have some kind of independent commission to review rankings and mandatories in order to have a just system in place. Sanctioning bodies are so corrupt with their awarding title opportunities to preferred fighters or promotional companies. Fighters must make title defenses against mandatory, number 1, not some dude in the top 10, number 1.

Protecting the fighter: Their is a lot of pride in boxing. Most fighters are taught never to quit, or have it in them to never quit. Therefore, boxers must be protected from themselves. It is important to have competent corners or referees to see when a fighter can no longer continue. There have been way too many deaths and injuries as a result of incompetence from those mentioned. Making weight is also something to consider. If a fighter does not make weight, the fight should automatically be canceled. Also, with regard to weight classes, on the night of fight there should not be a weight difference of more than 10 lbs. between fighters, in order to protect the smaller fighter. That forces fighters to fight in their natural weight class, and not squeeze down and then rehydrate 20 or 30 lbs. after the weigh in. Mismatches would fall under this category, too.

They need to go back to same-day fight weigh-ins.

As what you said about mismatches, I mostly disagree. How do you expect a potentially great fighter to learn and improve if you just throw him in at the deep end? Would you put Anthony Joshua in with Deante Wilder now? Its not fair when one fighter has already had 30 plus fights of experience and the other has just 3. (although I reckon Joshua could still win it)

Its a very poorly organized sport maybe the worst in the world but its so fun watching someone skillfully beat up another man that no matter how bad it was I could never stop watching.

Why can't ping pong or golf have all of these problems?

Well, I guess other sports do have those things. You can have the Broncos play a team like the Jaguars or Raiders. But, boxing is more like having the Broncos play a highschool team.

No, that example you gave would be a mismatch. I am against all forms of mismatches. The thing is, fighters should fight other fighters with similar records or levels of experience. I am against mismatches where someone like Anthony Joshua knocks out a guy with a 5-7 record.

Because not anyone can pass a physical and call themselves a pro footballer like they can in boxing and get a licence.

In other sports you have to be drafted or picked out of a selection of other dedicated athletes but not in boxing which is why you get these mismatch showcases sometimes.

I hear ya, bro. It's a lot of work, but you have to start somewhere. Guess what, if the work never gets started it never gets done. So, maybe we can focus on the more important aspects like fighter safety, judging, mismatches, and then move on to the other aspects.

All of those problems get solved with one governing body.

                    Your face needs an overhaul.

JK, I had to say it. I don't really mean it though.

                    I agree with you.
