1993 prime MW Roy Jones vs. 1988 Michael Nunn

This is the Roy Jones that fought Thomas Tate and Percy Harris on HBO at middleweight vs. the Michael Nunn who knocked out Sumbu Kalambay and Donald Curry in 1988.

I give Nunn a fair chance in this one. He had a laserlike, fast straigh left. He could set this up very well. The downside was that he was susceptible to a good left hook.

RJJ was a monster at MW. His speed was at its peak at MW. His KO percentage was like 80% at MW.

I would have to go with RJJ on this one. His left hook gets there first. He was actually a step faster than Nunn.

RJJ KO Nunn in the 5th round by a counter left hook. Nunn doesn't know what hit him. Counted out.

Nunn would be a tough matchup for roy,,,

Nunn's jab would neutralize roy's speed,,,,,

I think roy barely wins ala roy-tarver 1

Nunn was truly second to "Nunn" in his prime, plus he was a south paw. With his athletic ability and boxing skills, I see him beating Roy. He knew how to use his legs and dance around the ring pumping his jab. His foot work was actually better than Roy's and that's something Roy has never experienced. Plus he had good pop in both hands to keep Roy honest and thinking. More importantly, he was just as confident and ****y as Roy and would not have been intimidated by him. Highly competitive 12 round UD for Nunn.

Great insight, I agree that Nunn's speed, southpaw stance, and athleticism (not to mention underrated power - haven't checked Boxrec, but the only fighters Frank Tate and Kalambay lost to by KO were Nunn - would have bested Roy over 12 by decision.

Though if RJJ won in one that wouldn't surprise me either.

Cheers to Uncle Pauly for coming up with this matchup, its provoked some great responses

Mouth watering match up, Nun had the jab and the wiley skills, not to mention some solid power...then again RJJ was supremely fast, was hardly hit and had great power himself.

I'm with Roy here, a good, close fight but a clear cut decision for Superman.

If Toney could ruin Nunn's career in 11, I give Jones 7 rounds to produce the same exact result.

Jones right hand leads and left hooks were light years beyond anything Toney could perform.

I can't Believe people are comparing athletics here roy wins in that category Everytime.

As for the fight I think roy stops via left hook don't know when but it would happen
