Peter Quillin: "I went to Golovkin's camp two years ago and got a lot of good rounds in. He didn't hurt me, I think I showed him I was a world class fighter then. I've sparred a lot of top guys, from Carl Froch to Macklin himself. Go ask those guys what they thought about me and what level they think I'm on"

Grzegorz Proksa: "The guy hits like a hammer. I tried everything, but it did not work. You have to give him credit, because he had a good handle on the situation and it was an honor to meet him in the ring. Even though I lost every round, I wanted to fight on. There is no reason for us to have avoided fighting him - and I think today I fought not only the best fighter in my weight class, but perhaps even in the pound for pound rankings."

Whatever happened to him ? He was supposed to Sergio's biggest threat circa 2010-2012. Last I heard, WBO stripped him of his title.

Sam Soliman: "Golovkin would be lunch for me. If I fought him tomorrow he'd beat me, but if I get into perfect shape fitness-wise my style would beat him 100 times out of 100. The only way he'd beat me is if something freakish would happen."

Amir Khan: I got the chance to see Golovkin train last year and was really impressed by his offence. Unfortunately I didn't meet him as I caught his eye during a combination. This triggered a condition I've developed whereby I blink even when not in the direct line of a punch - resulting in me walking into the gym pillar rendering me un-concious. I'm told this is nothing to worry about and just a natural defence system. I look forward to meeting with Golovkin properly, and who knows, perhaps climbing in the ring with him.

                      Fernando Guerrero:

“I saw his fight on HBO,” Guerrero said of Golovkin’s five-round destruction of Grzegorz Proksa in September. “I guess he can punch. He can punch, but don’t forget, I’m a puncher, too, and I can box. I’d test that when I most likely get in the ring with him if I get the fight. Other than that I didn’t see anything special.

“This is a fight that I would definitely want. If my advisor Al Haymon wants it, I would want the same thing, too. I’m O.K. with whatever. If he’s the next opponent, so be it.”
