Comments Thread For: Roach To Advise Pacquiao To Retire if He Struggles

Manny Pacquiao's trainer says the Filipino boxer will contemplate retirement if he fails to perform well against Brandon Rios this month. Freddie Roach said if the Rios fight “does not go well, we will seriously talk about his retirement,” but that Pacquiao was training as well as ever for the November 23rd pay-per-view bout in Macau.

Pacquiao is coming off defeats against Timothy Bradley in a much-criticised judges' decision, and then a knockout at the hands of Juan Manuel Marquez.

A third successive defeat would put his career at the crossroads, and while Roach said performance levels were more important than results, he acknowledged serious thought would have to be given to the future of “Pac-man” if he does not return to his best in Macau.

So, he didn't think Pacquiao getting knocked unconscious by that monster JMM right hand, and left for dead was enough to "advise" him to retire, but struggling is?

Struggling against a punching bag would say a lot more than getting KO'd by JMM.

This would make sense if manny was struggling prior to the ko but it was the exact opposite so go back under your rock. Going by your logic every fighters that has been ko should retired immediately.

Rios is made to order. Pac should try and avoid Bradley after this though.

Roach won't drop Manny, Roach's reputation is in the garbage these last couple years, Manny is Roach's best meal ticket.

No. He was beating JMM up...up until that monster KO.
