  • Comments Thread For: Tua Hopes Ustinov Win Will Lead To Klitschko Shot

New Zealand heavyweight David Tua could possibly earn a shot at one of the two Klitschko brothers - if he scores a knockout win over Belarus boxer Alexander Ustinov on Saturday.

Tua meets Ustinov at Claudelands Arena in Hamilton, a hugely challenging bout with Ustinov ranked inside the top 10 in both the IBF and WBA rankings and with just one career loss from 29 bouts.

The Klitschko brothers, Vitali and Wladimir, between them hold all the major versions of the world heavyweight titles. [Click Here To Read More]

I've always been a fan of Tua but that ship sailed a long time ago in terms of fighting Klitschko.

He would need to KO this guy and then try to sucker in a Chisora, Arreola, Adamek, or Jonathon Banks and win to even have a shot

There are 2 possible ways for tua in this one!
            1. Power-plan:Try to kill Ustinov with body shots if the power is still there! He needs to be in Beast-Mode! But if his power is gone and it looked that way in the Barrett-fight, he should consider Plan B

            2. Workrate-plan: Try to outpoint Ustinov with short und fast punches in the inside, try to outwork him. Ustinov is a verry big and heavy guy, he should not be able to go a high pace. But Tua needs good stamina and fitness for this plan.

Ustinov is verry big but hes not a verry good boxer and he also has not a good chin. Pulev was able to stop him and Pulev has not much power. Like i said, im sure Tua can stop Ustinov if the power is there/back but if not he needs verry good conditioning to go a pace over 12 rounds to outwork the Russian.
The worst thing Tua can do is a mistake he has done often in the past, wait for a one-punch knockout opportunity to the head. Tua is to short, he should concentrate on ustinovs body.

I always think when a guy like David Tua comes to the end of his career and looks at people like John Ruiz and Hasim Rahman being two time world champions, it must be hard to finally call time on his career. We sit here on forums and talk down world titles, but to fighters who have dedicated there lives towards winning one, retiring without one while two people you have knocked out can claim to be two time champions, must be a bitter pill to swallow.

Absolutly. Today Tua lives in his gym and drives an old black Mini. Thats all he got!

Hes knocked out four former world champions in Maskaev, Ruiz, Rahman & Moorer.

I hope he wins & I am glad he has got himself in very good condition but I fear it maybe too little too late. The last I recall his power being there was against non-durable blown up cruiserweight Shane Cameron though he was fighting mainly very durable opposition.
