Comments Thread For: Adamek is Ready To Knock a Czar Off His Throne

By Jake Donovan - With his 37th birthday less than a month away, the writing is on the wall for Tomasz Adamek. The former two-division champion knows time isn’t on his side to attempt to add one more major title to his ledger before calling it a career.

It’s not like Adamek needs additional motivation to take his gym sessions seriously. Then again, every little bit helps.

“I train real hard for every fight, and training even harder for this fight,” insists Adamek (49-2, 29KO) of his upcoming showdown with unbeaten heavyweight Vyacheslav Glazkov, which takes place Saturday afternoon at Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York. “Any heavyweight is capable of beating me and I am capable of beating any heavyweight.”

The scheduled 12-round bout to air live in a rare Saturday afternoon special edition of boxing on NBC (2:30PM ET), the third time in less than a year that boxing appears on the free network. Adamek has become a regular fixture on NBC Sports Network Fight Night shows, thanks to his alignment with Main Events, his stateside co-promoter and the primary feeder for the series now in its second year. Perhaps he meant "any top HW"? - I kind of like his attitude and heart in the ring, but he really should have stayed in CW division.

his management has a great relationship w/NBC as there are a few HW's I'd rather c on tv, he's far from an elite HW, very selective, lately w/his bouts....as another rightfully said, waiting 4 Vitali to go away...

I like him. He fights hard and has good people around him and solid representation. Age is starting to become a factor - i'd like to see him get his shot.

Adamek is a perrinial gatekeeper now for the HWs. He had such a miserable 2012 with Fast Eddie beating him with 1 arm for most of a fight, and Cunningham boxing beautifully (in no way crowd pleasing)... Both of those adversaries went on to lose pretty badly in subsequent fights. Adamek better regain focus, or get out before his takes a bad beating. Watch the Paul Briggs fights again (@175 10 years ago) and you can only wonder how this guy still has a pulse.

Adamek used to have good skills and when he moved up to heavyweight he had speed on his side.... the only thing he had going for him at HW. Now he no longer even has the speed since he tried to gain some muscle. He is not meant for HW but i respect him as a fighter. He has had a great career but his time at the top is over.

I like the guy and respect his ring record and achievements..

......but being a small heavyweight, with a lot of miles on his engine and needing to fight at a super high-tempo/beat guys with speed (just at an age when that ain't so easy) makes TA very vulnerable indeed.

TA will no doubt be carried out on his shield - he's a proper warrior - but I am thinking that might happen sooner rather than later. Wish him well!
