Comments Thread For: McGuigan Sees Career Boost in Frampton Vacating

Barry McGuigan, manager of, Carl Frampton, says his boxer will see a career boost with more mental focus by relinquishing both his Commonwealth and European super bantamweight titles to pursue a world title shot.

The Belfast boxer defended his European crown last month with a sixth-round stoppage of Jeremy Parodi. Frampton stopped the Frenchman with a body shot to claim his 17th straight win in a fight that doubled up as an IBF world championship eliminator.

He's obviously ducking Lwandile Gugushe who is a top 20 Commonwealth Super Bantamweight & has a sterling 5-5 record.

Lwandile Gugushe is the most feared boxer, in the history of the sport, named Lwandile Gugushe.

      lol.

      I love the commonwealth belt.

'Well, we don't know much about him,' says the commentator 'But we all know what great fighters game out of Ghana! In between boxing this man is a taxi driver and has 17 children'

      Cue one round blast out.

'Well, It is hard to imagine how that fellow was unbeaten in X amount of contests'.

It is never hard to imagine, though. Half of these commonwealth title challengers have probably won a free holiday and when they turn up in England they are told they have to fight. It is why the only ever have one corner man or sometimes no corner men whatsoever but the late Dean Powell probably who was probably telling them to walk straight in with their chin in the air.

What they're hoping for is a decent performance (win or lose) so a UK promoter will pick them up & they can stay.

You can hardly blame them either. A couple of grand in a Commonwealth belt can support their family for a year or two.

Unfortunately most of it gets siphoned off before they ever see it.
