I absolutely feel like 147 is a big weight class for Broner. I am curious how he is going to handle being hit by a real 147 pounder with a big punch, although Chino isn't necessarily a big 147 pounder.

I think Broner will use more movement. So far he's appeared limited in that aspect because he hasn't had to use his ring IQ against smaller opponents lacking KO power.

There's talk about Maidana being suspectible to body shots. But I wouldn't be surprised if Robert Garcia has stressed a left hook to the body as part of Maidana's offense. Just in case Broner moves more than anticipated. Broner is not particularly hard to hit. But the body is a larger more stationary target.

Just remember everyone thought Maidana was just a stepping stone for Victor Ortiz before he went on to bigger fights and we all saw how that turned out...

I honestly think he needs a lost to start taking this sport serious. Maidana is not the one to do it. I don't think it matters which trainer Maidana has or who's doing his conditioning now. In saying that, His ONLY CHANCE is brawling... Broner needs a wake up call for sure but don't bet on Maidana being the one to do it.
I was reading through all the comments before i posted mine and that is exactly what i was going to say. I love AB, big fan, kid has miles of talent and natural ability. Have you seen him play basketball? Heard him freestyle/rap or seen him perform? He is one of those naturally gifted types and very flamboyabt. BUT he is not focused yet. I'm concerned about his weight between fights, you can't treat your body like that, or it will start mistreating you. Money May is in fight shape almost all the time, and is never looking overweight, but in the first press event for the fight Broner looked like a keg. He gotta lose one fight to realize that his natural gift is not alone enough to become great. Maidana has a punchers chance to do it but Broner will win this one. Probably by a body shot. I KNOW many of you have not watched a lot of Broners fights before Rees and Mali. This boy is a beast, wait you'll see.

Only thing that worries me with Broner is what seems to be a lack of dedication to boxing right now. I can care less if he's have 3-somes or rapping etc. He seem worried about being famous than great. Maybe he does run from club after he parties but I doubt it. If he's not serious Maidana will have him counting lights in Texas.

Whilst I would love to see a big punching 147'er put a whupping on AB, I don't think Maidana is the one to do it.

Still I expect Broner to get hit a fair amount, and that's always fun to watch. At least this time they won't be Paulie's bitch slaps.

The fact you don't give his jab or right hand respect makes me skeptical of your ability to assess things from a martial mindframe.

Like I said, don't look at how he fought Khan, look at how he fights now. Or do you contend that he fights the same since he hooked up with Robert Garcia? Clarify for me.
I 100% agree with you that Maidana does not fight exactly how he did back vs khan. I believe his jab and right hand are respectable. But what else is he going to bring to the table? If your trainer has any sort of knowledge of the game, I can assure you just as Maidana will be preparing for Broner to go to the body, Broner will be prepared to negate that jab and straight. Now I ask you, when this does happen what else can Maidana do? I can tell you already what he will do. BRAWL. He wont have a choice unless he wants to get beat on the cards. Now this will either play in to Broner's hands IE: Alexander vs Maidana OR Broner finally gets clipped as most people on this site are praying for. Only fight night will tell. I could careless who wins. I respect this sport from a fan and boxer point of view. I do not think Broner at this point does. We will see if all these outside antics follow him in the ring or not.

Actually he is very open to the left hook to the body and head when he is using the "shoulder roll", I would really enjoy seeing what kind of chin Broner has. He has not fought a puncher yet, the guys who had any pop have all been much smaller than Adrian. I have always hoped to see him against Ruslan Provodnikov at 140 or 147 or Keith Thurman at 147.

There are several considerations. First, Broner did not appear to bring his same power to 147. Broner is a slow starter. He's largely stationary and (wih the exception of PDL, quintaro, and a few others) is used to people caving from his size, power and athleticism. He has a tendency to lower his output dramatically and just defend his head and tank to the body whenever an opponent starts throwing. He's a distracted foe. Not fully focused on the game as he should be, but more focused on what the game has gotten him. He's accustomed to having a size and power advantage in nearly all of his fights. He won't have that power advantage here, and probably not size either. Even if he does manage to bulk up at 147 it wil be unnatural and not proportionate to his frame. If he bulks up too much, it takes from his power and speed.

Now, those are just things to consider. On to styles. Broner is a largely in the pocket, stationary fighter. You been in the gym, then you know you are only going to be good at what you train. He is not going to magically grow a set of wings and skate around like devon and khan, and even if he does, he will not be accustomed to keeping his defense tight while doing so. It won't be a part of his muscle memory because he doesn't train it. He trains in the pocket fighting with some lateral movement side to side, and some turning. If he does get on his toes, I actually favor that situation because that is maidana pushing Broner out of his normal comfort zone. Broner will be lost if he magically tries to grow a back foot game, and that helps maidana and that jab, straight right of his considerably, which by the way covers a whole lot of distance delivering a whole lot of destruction from range. In close Broner will be leaving his body open.. If I was coming up with a gameplan in close, I'd say Maidana needs to use his jab and straight right to make broner head defense happy, when broner cranes his upper body back to roll a punch, Maidana needs to switch to the left hook to the body, straight right to the body. The straight right to the body will be the money punch.. Everything else is to set that up. He has to make sure he hits Broner at the point of highest tension while craning back to roll a punch and hit that tense spot to inflict maximum damage. Rinse and repeat this sequence until Broner is so body defense happy that he gets caught with the overhand. Maidana will have to soak up damage to do this, naturally.. But he can do it. He will NOT just go in swinging they will have a plan to break Broner down. And if Maidana hurts Broner to the body early Broner will shell up more and enable this plan, or one similar to it, to be facilitated more quickly.

One final thing: how do you respect Maidanas jab and right when you called the jab average and the right hand semi decent? Sounds to me as if you thought one thing about Maidana's arsenal, but upon further review, decided to agree with me instead.
