  • Comments Thread For: Photos/Weights: Usyk vs. Romero, Uzelkov-Condrington

The stage is set for tomorrow's big night of boxing in Kiev, Ukraine. Unlike the majority of the events, organized by K2 Ukraine, this one will not be filled in with numerous stay-busy fights of experienced, world-ranked contenders. Oppositely, there would be just two battle-tested boxers on the card, and, moreover, the real star of the show will be a professional debutant.

The featured man is a former amateur star Olexander Usyk, a highly regarded Ukrainian boxer, who makes his debut as a professional cruiserweight. Usyk, a close friend of featherweight sensation Vasyl Lomachenko, trained by Vasyl’s father Anatoly, is a 2012 Olympic and 2011 World champion at the heavyweight division (201 lbs). Usyk was also 2008 Ukraine’s Olympian (lost to Clemente Russo in the second round) and 2009 Milano bronze medalist (lost to recent Top Rank signee and another 2012 gold medal winner Yegor Mekhontsev). Indeed. Codrington should at least be what Stevens was supposed to be; someone to see how good Uzelkovs chin is. Thing is Uzelkovs far more likely to be doing the checking, and Jaidon's come up short before whereas Uzelkov's been in with some top LHWs and is yet to be stopped.

Obviously the fight everyone wants to see is the Usyk debut, and it's good to see they've started him against a fairly tough opponent.

I would expect Usyk to win fairly comfortably, but I still have my doubts in the longer term after watching that Romanian kid back him onto the ropes in the WSB finals. I'm also reserving judgement on his power til I see him in the pro ring, though his mobility, speed and athleticism are top notch.

Usyk's opposition is anything but fairly tough, Romero has almost no skill, he is a big strong kid who swings for the fences and eats every punch thrown form the guy hes fighting.

Romero does not even have a punchers chance because he hits ok but he a wear you down guy, and he is going to be eating way too many punches to wear Usyk down.

No footwork, no head movement and no chance of winning
