The World Boxing Council has sanctioned the WBC light heavyweight Diamond belt for the Canadian super-fight between Jean Pascal (28-2-1, 17KOs) and Lucian Bute (31-1, 24KOs), scheduled to take place on January 18th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The fight was originally scheduled to take place earlier this year, but Bute withdrew with an injury. Due to injuries and scheduling issues, Pascal has averaged one fight per year since 2011. Bute has not fought since a November 2012 decision win over Denis Grachev.

The WBC "diamond" belt title holder seems to be Bernard Hopkins (since May 21, 2011). But B-Hop later lost the WBC belt to Dawson and now is the IBF champ...
With WBC awarding the "diamond" belt to the winner of Pascal-Bute fight, they look like they plan a fight between Stevenson and Pascal or Bute next... In Canada, of course...
