    Interesting stats on Golovkin

According to Compubox (grain of salt added) Golovkin has been able to post up some good stats, (against limited competition of course).

In his last 5 fights (Stevens, Rosado, Macklin, Ishida, Proksa), Golovkin has connected with 43% of his punches, and his opponents have connected at 23%.

This means Golovkin has the highest connect percent out of anyone, and is not so easy to hit.

Compubox has a +/- ranking system where you take the fighters connect % minus the % they get hit. Mayweather leads boxing with a 42% connect, 18% opponent connect, for a plus 24 rating. Golovkin is in second place with a plus 20 rating.

    Ward is + 14
    Sergio is + 1
    Froch is -5
    Pac is +9
    Klitschko is +13
Rigo is +13 (leads in defense with a 16% opp. connect)

Keep in mind that Golovkin hasn't faced the level of competition that Froch and others have. This thread is to merely point out that Golovkin has so far shown to be the most accurate puncher. It also points out that his defense is by no means poor, he does not get hit much at all. I suspect these numbers to change as his level of competition increases, but for now I can see why people are loving this guy.

Please refrain from posting excessive hype or hate, keep it logical.

This is NSB...no room for logic.

On a serios note, GGG rolls punches and gauges distance quite well. He isn't Money or Rigo, but not the punching bag haters make him out to be.

Another thing that is very interesting is that its states that he had an almost 2 inch reach disadvantage against stevens but his arms were 2 inches longer from shoulder to knuckle

Canelo was just behind Mayweather on the plus minus ratio when he faced limited competition.

you have to consider that GGG hasnt fought anyone yet that is not afraid of him,, and that his defense seems good because everyone he has fought is afraid to trade,,,,, simple as that,,

GGG has that tyson effect right now like it was the 80s again and everyone was afraid of mike,, GGG has that same aura around him now

Gotta say I don't think Stevens came in scared, yeah, he coulda come out harder, but weighing up what a known KO artist is bringing is smart not scared.

He only really went on the back foot after GGG floored him in the second, and even then continued to try and regain the initiative. The simple fact is that Golovkin was hurting him and forcing onto the back foot, whilst he seemed unable to land anything that kept GGG off him.

There is something to what you say however, he is so committed and relentless in offense that opponents seem to find it difficult to gain any offensive rhythm of their own.

                offense is his best defense..

his opponents seldom throw punches, afraid of being hit open by the wrecking machine. that's why he has a +20 rating

I agree with what you say, but in this case the +20 comes solely from percentages, not the amount thrown. His opponants only land about two out of every 10 punches thrown, they are missing, or he is blocking about 8 of those punches.

You are right that nobody throws much against him, that would be another interesting stat to
look up. If you are implying that they miss because he is the one in control, I get that.

I know, at best it shows a trend. It doesn't indicate how hard or effective those punches were...
