  • Comments Thread For: Golovkin Acknowledges Taking More Cautious Approach

NEW YORK — Gennady Golovkin told HBO’s Max Kellerman in the ring that nothing Curtis Stevens landed affected him during their WBA middleweight title fight Saturday night in The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Golovkin acknowledged later, however, that he fought a more responsible defensive fight because he was concerned about Stevens’ vaunted power.

“He was strong and I was a little cautious because of his strength,” Golovkin said after his technical knockout win. “But I felt comfortable in there and never felt I was in any trouble.”

this looks and sounds like a very talented fighter maturing in the sport. this guy is tough as hell and can punch. as long as he takes training seriously. nobody as 160 can defeat him. there's 2 good fights that i would love to see. GGG vs ward and froch. chavez jr will continue to duck.

Pfft Ward gets bodied, he the biggest coward in the sport right now.

Froch is a G, Respect. Chavez jr having trouble making weight and if he did I bet you be one of those clownz crying about how much he put on over night, you fuck boy shut the fuck up, you clowning yourself.

PS: GGG beats them all, Ward KO, Froch SD, Chavez UD.

Its gonna take someone whos slicks with balls and have power, So you clownz will have to wait till broner gets to 160 before you see GGG take a L

... "Golovkin Acknowledges Taking More Cautious Approach"...

... No doubt -- he learned that he has to pretend that he's fighting dangerous people...

I don't think any less of Golovkin, he did exactly what was expected, in good fashion too. It was one of those fights where he never needed to kick into 2nd gear as he was winning easily, there was one round you could have given Stevens but that's about it.

Also, if the Ward fight does happen which I'm pretty certain it will, I can't see Golovkin pecking away at Ward the way he does his other opponents, the way Golovkin is able to jus' touch his opponents to create big shots...Ward is too good a counter puncher for that to work, so Golovkin is gonna have to bring the heavy artillery by the 2nd or 3rd round.

How is Ward a Coward, you punk B1tch, when he has beaten the best fighter at 168, Froch sore loser a$$ included. I don't see ward losing to GGG, Froch get koed because of his come forward style, Chavez never fights at 160 and 168 again. By the way Chavez is lucky in his last fight, that the guy didn't have punch or he would be laid out.

                ... Of course...
... Though, Golovkin is not looking for a Ward fight right now... Ward is winning on points -- against anybody in the sport (South 168)...

Ward has the same kind of talent as GGG. GGG is far stronger, but Ward has impressively defeated all the best fighters at 168 and none of the fights were even close. He even manhandled Froch with one arm.

I'd like to see a healthy Martinez fight GGG. Ward would be my favorite fight probably.

Froch is only a closer fight if GGG just jumps up in weight and it impacts him a bit and Froch is still on the top of his game. Otherwise, I'd expect him to be like Barker, Geale, Sturm or Murray (one sided for GGG, even if he doesn't just walk through all those guys with ease).

2014 should give us some better GGG fights. I'd imagine we'll at least get one of the non Ward-Martinez guys I mentioned above in 2014.

Edit: Chavez is LOL. Guy didn't even train himself properly for a Martinez fight, so it's hard to take him seriously. He didn't even really beat Vera in his last fight, it was a draw or Vera win. So he has to really cruise vs Vera then beat a more talented fighter for me to even think of his name when thinking of top fighters. All he is right now is a talented big name that doesn't seem to get it at all.

It's a damn good style match up though but I agree with you. If the two ever meet I hope Golovkin enters the ring light, that would help him more.
