Why were Hopkins and Jones jr never a PPV hit like pacquaio?

Hopkins racist rants never worked.his only ppv hit was vs de le hoya,hopkins is a ppv flop even though he is with golden boy.

same case with Jonesjr,in his heyday he used to go to the extreme to promote a fight.. claiming he was one of the best ever..once even bringing guns to the press conference..yet the ppv sales were low

Pacquaio on the other hand never brags or rants yet he is one of the biggest ppv hits of all time

Hopkins' style just didn't appeal to many people
Roy was flashy, but rarely went all out for KO's
had he done so, he probably woulda blown up
Roy's fights were always entertaining, he just carried guys to UD's
he had mainstream exposure through his other ventures
all that was missing was more stoppages on his part
don't think Hopkins ever woulda been a big superstar though

pac also benefitted by keeping him and mayweather's names in the media to make it seem like we were going to get a big fight

lots of it comes down to style in that case.

manny wasn't popular for who he was out of the ring. part of it was down to him being small, asian, stuff that peopel don't associate with great boxers. the rest of it was his style, though. pacqauio took on bigger guys and took their souls. he was the most exciting fighter in the sport for almost a decade.


jones had an eye catching style, but off of a highlight reel some of his fights were boring. he did a lot of posturing, feinting, stepping to the side. he didn't throw much. he used his reflexes primarily for defense. he didn't beat guys up. he'd catch them with huge shots, or win a one sided decision.

hopkins did pressure and impose himself a bit at MW, but as he aged he moved away from that, and became a rather boring fighter.


jones was a PPV guy, but never on the level of pacquiao. he also didn't have floyd mayweather to help promote his fights. those two benefitted hugely from a fight that never happened. it without a doubt was responsible for their making several million in extra purses.

Pacquiao got to beat Oscar De La Hoya and (unlike Hopkins) didn't have to simultaneously compete with him for PPV #'s

Also, Pacquiao has an entire country behind him and is extremely exciting

Fighting De La Hoya had a lot to do with it. The same can be said of Hopkins, however it is important to make note of the size advantage he had, when Pacquiao fought De La Hoya he went in the underdog, when he walked out the victor he was seen as King David.
