Comments Thread For: Calzaghe Back Cleverly To Make Things Right at Cruiser

UK legend Joe Calzaghe feels Nathan Cleverly will get right back in the mix when he moves up to the cruiserweight division against Australia’s Daniel Ammann on November 30 in a challenge for the vacant Commonwealth cruiserweight title. Cleverly is looking to bounce back after suffering the first loss of his career, a TKO defeat to Sergey Kovalev in August. Calzaghe is confident that Cleverly will learn from the loss to Kovalev and look better when he moves up the much heavier weight, a 25-pound leap. Cleverly will have to put on the pounds to compete with fighters who will come in at over 200-pounds on fight night.

The gap between light heavy and cruiser is huge. I'd love to have to put on 25lbs.

Whatever, son. He's going to get sodomized the minute he fights a live body at Cruiserweight.

There aren't really too many live cruisers tbh. It's a weak division.

Which is probably also why he's moved there tbh. Funny that he said 4 months ago that he'd fight Froch at 168, yet now he's weak at 175? Doesn't make sense to me.

        All the best to him.

Why isn't Frank just having him fight Macarinelli for the title?

Whatever, son. Marco Huck and Ola Afolabi easily make him squeal like a pig, I reckon.

Cleverly obviously has a death wish... I remember he was in the discussion on boxnation for the Adonis Stevenson vs Tavoris Cloud fight and Glen McCrory told him moving up was a bad idea.... Should have listened

What did Nathan do hire Joe to make excuses for him?

KOVALEV is a damn animal,he hits harder than STEVENSON and he will beat STEVENSON;there's no shame in a loss with KOVALEV but the way he fought is a damn ****** way,you can't invite the bigger puncher of the division to hit you. I respect Cleverly also because KOVALEV was not mandatory but was a voluntary defense showing how big balls CLEVERLY has. Anyway cruiserweights are big men and CLEVERLY without ko power has to boxe 12 rounds everytime with those big big men,i don't know if he will win a title but i like watch his fights.

I'd heard him mention this and don't really get it at all, the only things he had at LHW was decent speed and mobility and good stamina, his supposedly granite chin was shown to be, if not weak, at least not a huge asset and he never had much in the way of power.

He's tall enough for a cruiser, but his speed and stamina are likely to take a hit, and I can't see him somehow developing KO power. Bad decision IMO.
