I know this is one hell of a can of worms I'm opening but I don't care, this hasn't been discussed in years.
. I don't see how Rahman could have won this fight. I don't care what anyone says, Rahman's win over Lewis was a fluke. People like to say that Rahman's career was "inconsistent" but to me the only inconsistency in Rahman's career was that knockout of Lewis. Aside from that, he'd been knocked the fuck out, had a string of bad losses and crappy performances. His chin and stamina were shaky and in my opinion, would not have held up in this fight. I think Vitali would have put a beating on him and stopped him in 9 rounds.
BUT.. This is the thing that baffled me: Vitali all of the sudden gets these injuries and retires. Naturally, many people were skeptical, claiming Vitali faked these injuries and retired because he was so scared of fighting Rahman. On the one hand, I also find it strange that Vitali kept getting hurt and retired only to return to the ring a few years later. On the other, I find it laughable that he'd be afraid of Rahman, because I really don't see what there was to be afraid of. (don't bother posting the one-punch KO of Lewis). Some have even suggested that Don King paid Vitali off to retire so he wouldn't destroy the one, somewhat big-name fighter he had left.
Thoughts? Who would have won? Why didn't the fight happen? Poll is included.
