Comments Thread For: Abel Sanchez is Sure Martinez Won't Fight Golovkin

NEW YORK — Sergio Martinez’s adviser took the opportunity during a news conference Thursday to warn Gennady Golovkin about Curtis Stevens.

“And trust me, G.G., watch out,” said Sampson Lewkowicz, who also promotes Russian heavyweight Magomed Abdusalamov, scheduled to participate in HBO’s co-featured fight Saturday night in The Theater at Madison Square Garden. “Because you have a fight on your hands. I know this young man. So don’t think this is an easy one, a walk through the park.”

Golovkin’s trainer doesn’t think we’ll ever see a press conference in which Lewkowicz warns Golovkin about Martinez. In fact, Abel Sanchez is so certain Martinez won’t ever face Golovkin in a middleweight title unification fight he spoke openly about a possible Martinez-Miguel Cotto clash.

I like Golovkin and i think Sanchez is a good trainer for him but Sanchez is starting to become the new Freddie Roach. An attention whore.

Also lol at Loeffler.... they're talking up Stevens now, but when they bring up Golovkin's record again, they'll say Stevens was nothing and was garbage.

I think both guys are great fighters and Martinez vs Golovkin would be an awesome fight, great for the fighters and great for the public. They would unify the titles and settle the debate of who is truly better which would satisfy everyone. Hopefully whatever the real reason for this fight not getting done gets set aside for once and this fight does end up getting made and soon, for the greater good of boxing.

Lets be honest, is Martinez/GGG really necessary? We all know the outcome, GGG by brutal KO.

Sergio is a smart guy and he knows the huge risk with GGG. The guy is trying to cash out man, he is at the end of his career. Especially with those injuries building up, Sergio is looking for those big money fights that aren't big risks.

I don't blame Sergio for not taking the GGG fight. It's just business.

Yes because you can't become the man until the man is gone and Sergio will be referred to as the lineal title until he retires or loses

I don't know if I'm as certain as that. Rosado appeared to do better than most GG opponents by moving around and counter-punching. A healthy Martinez could mimic that with superior handspeed, accuracy and power.

Don't get me wrong, I favour Golovkin in the bout but Martinez shouldn't be written off entirely. In saying that, I don't think Sergio takes this fight until 2015 at the earliest (if at all).
