Bernard Hopkins just doesn’t go away.
There are nights where he finds challenges, past 40, that he can’t overcome. One of them, Joe Calzaghe, is likely headed to the Hall of Fame next summer. Chad Dawson was one of the best Light Heavyweights around for most of five or six years.
Outside of that, Hopkins keeps on winning. Fighters below elite tiers, and even some, who flirt at the fringes, haven’t figured out how to get past the mind and skill of a living legend. It might not be pretty, but Hopkins entered the week the top ranked contender here to World Champion Adonis Stevenson and did nothing to lose his spot.
Also hanging on to a lofty spot was Middleweight Peter Quillin. He was way ahead on two terrible scorecards in a fight that looked like it could be a round or two apart either way.
