    "To Quit"

I was thinking about how some people said Alvarado quit against Provodnikov and basically on this forum quite a few are quick to talk bad about quitters. Ortiz had the questionable honor to have dozens of "He a quitter" threads dedicated to him by yours truly.

Here is what I have to say: I don't box and I never did. What I do do though is sports. I run and sometimes I run up a steep hill. And here is what I have to say: to all those who sit behind their keyboards calling boxers cowards and quitters: select a hill or a small mountain where you live and then get on your running shoes and try run up there. If you are not in shape or you have never done it before, or the hill is too steep or too long, something will happen: the same that happened to me the first time I tried to run up that steep hill - I felt like dying. After 15 minutes of running up the steep hill, I was gasping for air and slowly my whole body started to ache and later it felt like dying and then......I quit.
So to all who call boxers "quitters", please. Do it. Go run up a hill and then come back here and then you can call anybody anything. You can call boxers quitters and everything else. Cause you have been there yourself. You know what it feels like to die.

So what you're saying is that you're a quitter just like Alvarado?

Alvarado seemed to have nothing left after taking more punishment. These guys are human and have their lives, their families, and careers to think about. That career supports their families.

Duran quit because he was frustrated, yet is revered as one of the greatest of all time. I don't think a fighter like Alvarado who has always shown heart, has anything to be ashamed of. Not everyone wants to end up punch drunk.
