Duran hadn't fought as a lightweight for two and a half years by the time of the Leonard fight. He'd fought well over a dozen times at 140 before he even had his last fight at lightweight, and had just whitewashed Carlos Palomino the year previous.



This notion that he was "still a lightweight" is wrong.

You're right, I just checked boxrec and his wiki to be sure. My memory was off I guess because most of those fights in between were record-padders.

Regardless, my point remains true. People overhype champions of the past and consider conditions for fighters like SRL but not for every other fighter, namely Floyd. We forget so easily how SRL cherry picked pretty damn hard throughout his career and avoided Hagler until he was way past his prime. Even then, the fight was extremely competitive and I remember having Hagler winning a close score.

Alvarez was the only fighter of those three that drew a great deal of interest, which owes more to how well marketed Canelo was rather than anything he had ever demonstrated as a fighter.



Nobody wanted to see him fight Ortiz, and no f^cker had any interest in seeing him fight Guerrero until rumours started emerging of a possible Alexander fight popped up, and the former fight then became the lesser of two evils.

Everyone wanted to see him fight Ortiz. Of course we would have rather see him fight Pacman, but Ortiz was a great opponent and if Floyd had not fought him, ALL of us, including you would have called him a ducker. As far as no one wanting to see him fight Ghost, no one really know who Ghost was. But what does people wanting to see him fight them, have to do with them being great fighters with entirely different styles, and Floyd being forced to compromise his OWN fighting style in order to dominate them without getting grazed? Thats LEGENDARY what Floyd does. If SRL fought them, he may have stopped them, but he would have had all out brawls and wars. Its NO WAY SRL would dominate them as well as Floyd because his skillset is WAAAY lower.

Outside of Pac Ghost was THE ABSOULTE MOST credible opponent at ww. Everytime Floyd fights, everyone goes OUT OF THEIR WAY to discredit the opposition. How can you call a guy too young? You won't another fighter of the last fifty years who fought a tougher level of competition - in succession - like Leonard did from 1978-1981, so the notion that he cherry-picked throughout his career is pure fallacy. The argument that he avoided Hagler carries about as much weight as the argument that Hagler avoided Michael Spinks.


Also @ "even then" - as if Leonard was expected to even last more than a couple of rounds. The fact that it was so close and so competitive is of no credit to Hagler, believe me.

No one is laughing at me. But hypothetically if they were, then its THEIR prerogative to do so, Anyone who disagrees, is a fake who hates to admit that SRL really doesnt have the skillset to find away to be Floyd. I gave Pryor and Pacman a better chance because they are waaaaay faster, throw so many punches, all angles, movement, reflexes, never tire. SRL would be reduced to throwing one or two shots a round, and SRL is not a natural boxer at ALL!! If you feel Im an Atl, then thats your opinion.
