There you have it, mostly C level guys, a few B level guys.
It's a much more impressive resume than Peter Quillin's, on the other hand he really needs to step it up.

No, HBO need to step up the amount they offer his potential opponents. They ought to consider him an investment.

Right now, he's very high risk-low reward. There's no incentive for the division's top fighters to face him.

Typically Carl Froch is the only top fighter from 154-168 who has put his hand up, but Gennady shouldn't be forced to move up.

I think he looks pretty good tonight Judging by how much trouble Quillin was having with Rosado. No current MW can beat GGG. None of them are even on the same level.

Matthew Macklin a B+? Are you ****ing kidding me? For a world level guy, he's not a jot over C. Stop kidding yourself.

The best in the game are A to A+ and you think Macklin is up there with them nearly? GGG himself is a B+ or A probably, though we're still uncertain, because he hasn't fought anyone better than mediocre to decent contender level.

Surely listing him as a B-level fighter would suggest that OP feels he's a level below them?

Macklin is a B-level fighter imo, whether he's B+ or B- is up for debate. Quillin looks like a B-level fighter right now too.

Golovkin might well be 'A' standard, time will tell. He was certainly an A+ amateur.

You don't "beat" Sturm or get up on the cards w/a knockdown against Sergio if you are not in the B range or higher

                He's definitely a B level fighter, I think a C level fighter would be Mundine (C-), Godoy (C), Saunders (C), Lemieux(C), Garth Wood (C-), etc.

Macklin (B) could have easily been a titleholder had he gotten the decision he deserved against Sturm, he also beat Askainen when he was considered a top 10 middleweight, Alcine coming off the Lemieux win and was game against Martinez. Could have probably gone a few more rounds w/GGG if he hadn't been caught by such a perfectly placed body shot.

In terms of quality (not resume), I would rank the top 15 middleweights thus:

                1. • Sergio Martinez (A) -when healthy
                2. • Gennedy Golovkin (A)
                3. • Peter Quillin (B)
                4. • Darren Barker (B)
                5. • Martin Murray (B)
                6. • Daniel Geale (B)
                7. • Mathew Macklin (B)
                8. • Sergio Mora (B)
                9. • Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam (B-)
                10. • Felix Sturm (B-)
                11. • Marco Antonio Rubio (B-)
                12. • Andy Lee (B-)
                13. • Brian Vera (B-)
                14. • Max Bursak (C+)
                15. • Grzegorz Proksa (C)

Good thread, nice analysis. Not bad for your first post!

Give this guy some credit, he pretty accurately summed up what each guy in Golovkin's resume did.

Matthew Macklin is a B-level fighter, he gave Sergio Martinez a good amount of trouble and arguably was robbed against Sturm in his first title attempt.

It's true, it's not a great resume. But something tells me that's going to change in 2014.
