Comments Thread For: Jason Quigley Grabs Silver After Alimkhanuly Loss

Ireland's Jason Quigley was forced to settle for a silver medal at the World Championships after losing on points to home favourite Zhanibek Alimkhanuly in the middleweight final in Kazakhstan.

The 22-year-old from County Donegal was sent tumbling to the canvas in the first round and failed to recover with two of the three judges scoring the contest 30-27 in favour of Alimkhanuly.

Despite the defeat, Quigley becomes the first Irishman to win a silver medal at the event.

He won a Gold medal at the European Amateur Boxing Championships. Got silver at this one on a defeat. Id say hes rising up pretty good.

Jason is a very good fighter but it just wasn't day his opponent apparently had an easy semi final while Jason had a war though that's not to take away from the Kazak I seen highlights off he fight and he did look a very sharp fighter and deserved the gold

Well the Kazakh also had a tough fight in the quarter final against the Romainian Juratoni who is a very good middleweight.

Yes but Jason had to go straight in the day after a very tough fight and do it all again i'm not trying to say that Jason would have won had he had a rest day before the fight the Kazakh is clearly a very good fighter

Delighted for Jason I've seen him really progress the past 18 months,Ireland's first ever male world finalist as well...hugely important factor that the Kazakh got a walkover in the semi final while quigley fought a top Russian
