  • Comments Thread For: Jessie Vargas is Contemplating Return To 140 pounds

Undefeated welterweight contender Jessie Vargas (23-0) has informed BoxingScene.com that he is contemplating a move back down to the super lightweight division.

Vargas last fought near the 140 pound super lightweight limit in September of 2011 when he defeated Josesito Lopez via split decision. His last 6 bouts, including his October 11th victory over Ray Narh, have came in the welterweight division.

"I know I can still make the weight. I was on weight early for my last fight (versus Narh). I even ate before the weigh in and I didn't have any problems," Vargas told BoxingScene.com.

Come on Jessie, all the big 140s are about to move up since no one's even an actual legit 140 pounder.

I think a rematch with Josesito Lopez could be done at Welter or Junior Welter or Vargas vs Provodnikov at junior welterweight would be good or if Rios ends up going back down to junior welter after the Pacquiao fight Vargas vs Rios would be a good fight too. There's a lot of possibilities it's just a matter of the people that make the fights to put them together.

He's alright.... nothing much I can say.
It's either Bradley or Provo Arum will try to hook him up with...he beats neither.

A fighter is best off fighting at the lowest weight he is strong at. If he feels good and fights well at 140 that is where he should fight.

Vargas vs Alvarado (possibly at a CW) makes a lot of sense.
